With his arm around Willa—and trying to forget the last time he’d had his hands on her, the night before, in the limousine—Garrett led them to where his father and stepmother were standing. Stuart Hardwell had not been interested in working the ranch and had instead excelled in school and gone on to become the town’s doctor. Garrett’s mother, Ada, had passed away when he and his brothers were young. It wasn’t until they were in their teens that his father had remarried.

“Dad, Elenore, you remember Willa, Dylan’s sister?” He introduced them. “Willa, this is my father, Stuart, and his wife, Elenore.”

“Yes,” Stuart said, extending his hand to her, which she shook. “Of course. You’re also the wedding planner.”

“Event coordinator,” Garrett supplied.

Willa and his parents made small talk for a while, but Garrett barely heard any of the words they were saying. His attention was captured by Willa as he looked down at her. The sheen of her hair, the delicate curve of her cheekbone, the dimple that appeared in her left cheek when she smiled—all distractions that were too much for him. She laughed at something his dad said, and his eyes dropped to her full lips. She’d applied some gloss to them, and he wondered if he kissed her right now, would she push him away?

He was brought back to their kiss the night before. He’d come so close to losing complete control. He could have had her right there in the limo, and it had taken all his restraint to not follow her to Dylan’s door and beg to be let in. His stomach tightened with desire, and he knew that even though they’d agreed on keeping their hands and lips off each other—and that the night before had been an aberration, one they wouldn’t repeat—he was now sure he wouldn’t be able to stick to that agreement.

His hand was still on her lower back, and he moved it up and down her spine. He thought she might stiffen, but instead she softened slightly against him. His fingertip hit the strap of her bra, and he thought about sliding his finger beneath it. He removed his hand instead and took a step back from her. She noticed and looked up at him. The sunlight shining on her glossed lips was almost too much for him. “I’ve got to head inside for a bit. I’ll be right back.”

“Want me to come with?” she asked.

“No,” he said too quickly. “It’s fine. Stay out here. Enjoy the sunset.” He headed inside, eager to get away from Willa before he put her over his shoulder and brought her to his bedroom in his own house. He needed a minute to clear his head, but before he could do that, he ran into Dylan.

“So, you made another date with my sister?” he asked.

“Yeah,” he said. “I’m not sure this really counts as a date, but I wanted her to be here.” Dylan nodded and drank his beer. “Are you mad?”

“No, I’m not mad.
